Meet
Dr. Jasmine

Hi there! I’m Dr. Jasmine Simmons, an advocate, author, audiologist, traveler, and accessibility consultant with a passion for raising awareness of Usher syndrome. I was born with profound sensorineural hearing loss and received my cochlear implant when I was just two years old. At seven, I was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a progressive eye condition that eventually led to my Usher syndrome diagnosis, which affects my hearing, vision, and balance.

Despite these challenges, I graduated from the University of Akron (Go Zips!) and earned my Doctorate of Audiology from Central Michigan University in May 2020.

In February 2023, my life took a big turn when I was diagnosed as legally blind. This moment sparked the creation of Extraordinary Jordyn and Her Bionic Ears, the first book in a series designed to teach kids about Usher syndrome. My mission is to educate, empower, and create a world that’s more inclusive and understanding for people with disabilities.

A little about me: I’m bubbly, outgoing, and always up for an adventure! I absolutely love oysters, but I can never get enough of the beach, and I have a thing for beautiful skylines. One of my biggest dreams is to travel the world and visit as many countries as I can before I lose my vision.

I’m so excited to connect with you and share this journey together!
